SCHOOL NEWSLETTER: Week 9 Term 1

Week 9, Term 1.jpg

Tēnā koutou ngā whānau o Te Kura o Motueka/Allandale School.

Senior Team:

The shade sails are having a BIG, positive impact on the classroom learning in rooms 1 to 6. The children can often be found working outside the classroom and this means that the learning space in these classrooms has doubled. Every day there are groups of children completing their writing, reading, solving problems, and doing their curriculum learning.

This space is also being used for tuakana teina activities where children from different classes and age levels get to work alongside each other and support each other

Middle Team

Maker a Space is back and the children are once again loving the opportunity to explore different areas of the curriculum. This learning is driven by the students and they get the opportunity to be innovative and creative. The teachers encourage the students thinking by providing provocation, questioning and promoting them to enrich these opportunities.

 Junior Team

This team has been extremely busy exploring our places and spaces. They recently enjoyed beautiful Ohope Beach, have learnt about cricket, attended Fun for U and participated in Water Safety at school.

All our students have also been exploring Putauaki and some of our other  local Mountains and the stories that relate to them.

EBOP Swimming Sports

Last Thursday 25th March, we were fortunate enough to have 6 super swimmers who participated in the EBOP swimming sports. These super swimmers went up against 25 different schools in the Bay of Plenty. Phoebe Jones, Te Awamawhai Thrupp, Dion Taipeti, Kaziah O’Brien-Lawson, Cole Charteris and Felix Anderson-Smith. Thank you to Erin Green, Che Charteris and Christine Smith who supported these wonderful students by getting them to and from the pools, making sure that the swimmers went to the correct races and most importantly general care. This is a huge job, so thank you for taking time out of your day to support these children. We are grateful to have a bunch of supportive and wonderful guardians to go alongside our super swimmers.
Huge congratulations to:

  • Cole Charteris for coming 3rd place in the 1 length freestyle race.

  • Te Awamawhai Thrupp for coming 2nd place in the 1 length backstroke race.

  • Phoebe Jones for coming 2nd in the 1 length breaststroke race.

What wonderful Achieving Kind of kids we have here at Allandale School.

Hockey

We have had a great number of students interested in playing hockey this year. At this stage there are four possible teams. Thank you to the two parents who have put their hands up already. We are still looking for three more parents to coach/manage the other teams. One for the Year 1&2 team and one for the Year 5&6 team. This would involve meeting the team down at the Whakatane Hockey turf on game day, helping with subbing children on and off the turf, possibly holding a lunchtime or afterschool training session at school. You could share the role with someone else and Kayley Foster would be able to support you in this role. There is no experience needed.

If you know of someone or would like to volunteer please contact Kayley Foster via email ASAP on kayleyf@allandale.school.nz or leave a message at the office.

 Soccer Coach Needed

We also need a lovely parent or caregiver to coach our 8th Grade Football Team. Please email adriannem@allandale.school.nz or ring our school office.

School Newsletter Sponsorship

If you have a business you’d like to advertise on the back of our weekly newsletter, please contact Kleesha in our office at kleeshac@allandale.school.nz
